Narciso Rodriguez for Her is a fragrance released in 2003 by the fashion brand Narciso Rodriguez. It was the first perfume by Cuban designer Narciso Rodriguez, and despite the fact that composition was not at all original, but hit all the notes perfectly, the fragrance line was launched into orbit and conquered the global market. A parallel could be drawn between Narciso’s dresses and perfumes. The dresses do not offer anything original, but they exude minimalistic elegance and femininity. So do perfumes. Sometimes, in the pursuit of originality in all spheres of art, the meaning, and purpose of art are lost, and that is to stimulate the imagination and emotions, to elevate our mood and understanding of reality. Narciso Rodriguez for Her is not like that, it does not surprise and shock, but provides a feeling of femininity and grace like few others.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her

The perfumers who worked on Narciso Rodriguez for Her had the concept of creating a contemporary chypre perfume that was tailored to modern women’s tastes, as opposed to traditional chypre formulations such as Clinique Aromatics Elixir, Estee Lauder Knowing, Dior Diorella, or Givenchy III. Christine Nagel and Francis Kurkdjian not only revived the once popular perfume genre by using the traditional chypre blend of oakmoss and patchouli at the base of the perfume, fresh, hesperidic bergamot in the opening, and labdanum as the connective tissue of the top and bottom notes. But it also alchemically merged with another, resulting in floral woody musk.

This is accomplished by using ambrox, a fragrant substance with a rich amber scent and strong woody tones. It is quite common in modern perfumery and is used to enrich and add a nice warmth and elegance to the perfume formula, particularly in perfumes with a dominant floral note, in the case of Narciso Rodriguez for Her, an orange blossom. With the addition of musk, we get a romantic blend of cypress and floral woody musk that has won the hearts of women and men all over the world.

If I had to briefly describe what Narciso Rodriguez for Her smells like, I would say – like a woman in love. Or a woman who is showered with love. It smells happy, romantic, feminine. Her happiness can be felt far away and no woes of this world can penetrate the radiant aura surrounded by her beloved being. Narciso Rodriguez for Her is an infatuation poured into a bottle of perfume. Who would have thought that it takes so little for that wonderful feeling, just a spray or two.
