Pamplelune is a perfume from Aqua Allegoria collection by well known French brand Guerlain that appeared on the market in 1999. It got its name from two French words pamplemousse (grapefruit) and lune (moon) and like all perfume members of Aqua Allegoria line, it embodies the ideals of freshness, simplicity and elegance.
Pamplelune is, like the other 5 original perfumes from the Aqua Allegoria collection, the beginning of what is in France known as sent-bon, a smell good. The new category of simple composition perfumes, made with high-quality ingredients that only houses like Guerlain and Chanel can afford, enchanted perfume lovers, and opened the door for fantastic niche brands like Jo Malone and its maker, the talented Mathilde Laurent launched at the top of the perfume world.
Until Pamplelune appeared, the grape was a backup scent note, mostly together with pepper or wood notes. It got its main role in Pamplelune and my oh my what a role – Oscar worthy. Although I don’t like grapefruit, I love this perfume and if I could put together a list of my Top 5 favorite perfumes for spring-summer, Pamplelune would definitely be on it…it is that good! It is probably the best perfume grapefruit on the planet, and certainly one of the best citrus perfumes ever. Instead of additional spicy-woody chords, grapefruit in Pamplelune is mixed with a wonderful floral bouquet that gives it softness and juiciness as a contrast to its natural bitterness. The basis of patchouli and vanilla gives fullness and relish to the freshness of bergamot and neroli. Grapefruit in a perfume never smelled this natural, this organic but above all, it has been lifted by the imagination of a perfumist-artist. In the most perfect of worlds, this is what grapefruit would smell when you cut it in half on a warm summer morning and its juices start to flow.
One other interesting thing regarding the scent of grapefruit is that Hirsch in his study on scent effects on human conscience determined that men perceive a woman who smells of grapefruit as five to ten years younger. Ladies, anti age process has never been easier and smellier. All you need is a few drops of perfume with a dominant grape note. So why not choose the best – Pamplelune.
