London perfume was launched in 2006 by a famous English brand Burberry, known for its coats that waltzed straight from runways to the relaxed and mysterious charm of Hollywood detectives and female fashion icons. Burberry became the trademark of style for many movie heroes and heroines, from Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca to Paul Newman and Julie Andrews in Torn Curtain, Meryl Streep in Kramer vs Kramer to Brad Pitt and George Clooney in Ocean’s Twelve. The versatility of characters and roles speaks of the uniquely universal Burberry style with its straight, elegant lines and sophisticated cut that suits everyone whether they feel like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Alain Delon in Le Samourai. Their perfumes, like the wardrobe, have a peculiar English spirit made for rainy days and cold autumn and winter nights.

London is one of my favorite perfumes for autumn/winter season when I want to be in tune with the surroundings. Going out for an aromatic hot wine with friends, carefree and joyful conversations while it’s raining outside. Christmas holidays with family, the scent of pine and candies…all this is bottled in this perfume. London opens with citrus notes of bergamot that in tune with the herbal, aromatic note of lavender has this “green” scent that makes you feel like you are standing in front of a Christmas tree, holding a glass of punch. Despite sharp and fresh top notes, you can sense the warm, milky, almost eatable base of this perfume embodied in wine, cinnamon, leather and tobacco notes, just like drydown of Versace Dreamer. I’ve stressed out many times that united opposites are the characteristic of many good perfumes. That is something that has always fascinated me with Burberry London, that unity of green notes on one hand and the warm, powdery milky notes on the other, notes that tell the tale of autumn hangouts and winter holidays, of warmth and security of a home when it’s cold and snowing outside. In the end, it’s a tale that brings us back to happy and carefree childhood when rain wasn’t the reason to be nervous but an opportunity to sing and dance in the rain on your way back from school and a thick snow was a perfect backdrop for childhood games.

This perfume lasts only 5 to 6 hours but that can be compensated by putting it on your clothes. One of my favorite autumn and winter rituals is finding an ideal scarf for the day, putting a few drops of Burberry London and then enjoying long walks by the Danube, shrouded with the warm and calming scent of Christmas dessert. If you’re looking for a perfume that will keep you warm this winter and tell you Christmas tales, then look no further. I am sure that you’ll find someone special who will want to smell closely this scented magic that London brings.

The bottle itself is shrouded in well-known plaid material, Burberry’s trademark. If you don’t own a Burberry coat or a scarf, your perfume companion will own something similar that would make a nice decoration in every library or a nightstand.
